Mathematics
& Sciences

Sequences in mathematics and the sciences that extend into university-level coursework, preparing students for the quantitative demands of top undergraduate programs.

Mathematics at the center

Mathematics is the organizing discipline of our program. Advanced students work through a mathematics sequence that extends into multivariable calculus and linear algebra during their high school years, with credit for college-level coursework awarded by partner university programs.

The sciences are pursued with the same expectation of depth. Coursework emphasizes experimental methods, quantitative reasoning, and the habits of mind that advanced scientific work requires.

Depth that prepares

Our mathematics program moves through a classical secondary sequence and continues into college-level study. Students who are ready for accelerated work begin university-level mathematics without waiting for a grade-level milestone.

Science offerings are selected to support the quantitative emphasis of the program. Students pursue coursework in the natural sciences at the depth appropriate to their preparation and the direction of their intended undergraduate study.

One program, two pillars

Mathematics and computer science are taught as related disciplines, not as separate departments. The mathematical preparation our students receive is what makes the depth of our computer science and machine learning coursework possible.

University coursework and advanced credit

Advanced students have access to college-level coursework in mathematics and the sciences through our university partner programs. Credit for such coursework is awarded by the partner institution and is documented on the student's high school transcript.

The program prepares students for Advanced Placement examinations appropriate to their coursework. Students sit for the examinations that reflect the depth of their study.

Who teaches our students

Instruction in mathematics and the sciences draws on university courses, university-affiliated instructors with advanced degrees, and research mentorship with university faculty. This model is shared across the program and is described in greater detail on our Faculty page.
